What is a swingout?
The swingout is the foundational move of Lindy Hop — a partner dance born on the floor of Harlem's Savoy Ballroom in the late 1920s. In its basic form, it's an 8-count pattern: the follower swings out from the leader in a wide arc, creating that unmistakable fluid, circular motion that gives the dance its energy.
But a swingout is never just a pattern. It's a conversation — shaped by the music, the tempo, the connection between two people, and years of accumulated vocabulary. Every partnership brings out a different swingout. Mastering the basics takes weeks; exploring the variations takes a lifetime.
Why we're called SwingOut. In the swing dance world, going out means showing up — to the weekly social, the weekend workshop, the festival across the country. We built this so you never miss a swing out. Swing out. Find your next dance.
